Bowen therapy comprises of gentle, yet precise, movements over muscles, tendons, nerves and fascia. Each set of moves is followed by an intentional pause where I leave the room. These breaks, of around 2 minutes each, help reduce muscle tension, rebalance the body (physically, emotionally, and energetically), and activate the parasympathetic nervous system by allowing your brain time to process the neural information from the moves.
What is Bowen Therapy?
Is Bowen Therapy suitable for me?
Yes! Bowen therapy is generally considered safe and suitable for everyone, from babies to elderly, pregnant ladies and those with chronic conditions. Although considered safe for all, it is always best practice to discuss any specific, ongoing health concerns with your GP before starting a new treatment. The Bowen technique is not a substitute for traditional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment from a GP
What can Bowen therapy help with?
Bowen therapy has many applications. Everyone responds differently to the technique but some of the conditions which may be helped are:
Back pain
Knees, feet and ankle issues
Neck and shoulder restrictions
Headache, migraine, and sinus
Sports injuries and performance
Digestion and allergies
Cerebral Palsy, Parkinsons and stroke
Fertility, Babies and children
Stress, anxiety, depression and low energy
In order to gain the best results from Bowen therapy, I generally recommend 3 sessions booked 1-2 weeks apart but there is no obligation. We can be guided by you. Some symptoms may improve after 1- 2 sessions and some may take 4-6 sessions. Clients with chronic or ongoing issues may like to continue to receive Bowen therapy sessions every 4- 6 weeks to help manage their symptoms but the treatment path will be tailored for each client and your needs. I will discuss this with you during the consultation at your initial appointment.
What does the first session involve?
-
Personalised
Your first session will begin with a discussion around what has brought you to the clinic and how your current problems are affecting day to day life. The consultation will allow me to take notes on your medical history.
-
Targeted
I can then use this information to develop a treatment plan to address your symptoms.
-
Integrated
At the end of the session I will give you advice on how to get the most benefit from your treatment. For example this may involve avoiding extremes of temperature or strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours.
